Welcome to our Unit on Leadership. We are going to define Leadership, Management, and cover some leadership theories and styles, and provide you with some tools that can help you identify your leadership styles. It's my hope that at the end of this presentation you will be able to understand leadership, know where you are right now on your leadership journey or scale, and where you should be or hope to be.
Let me start by saying that there are no right or wrong leadership styles. What you should know is that to be effective, a leader should match his/her leadership style with his or her environment, situation or circumstances. So what's leadership?
It is an influential relationship among leaders and followers who intend real changes and outcomes that reflect their shared purposes. It is also the process of influencing others to understand and agree about what needs to be done and how to do it.
Management is Attainment of organizational goals in an effective and efficient manner through planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling organizational resources.
As you can see a manager can be a leader and vice-versa. However, keep in mind that the personal; qualities of a leader are Emotional connections, Open mind, Listening that is communication, courage or Nonconformity, Insight into self or self-awareness.
